If you can’t change your work situation, then improve your diet and get plenty of rest. Change how you think about your job situation. Focus on the positive: You do have a job, you do eat regular meals. (Much of the world doesn’t.) Just do the best you can and think of the things you can’t control in positive terms. Jesus says in Luke 12:25, “And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?” Or, to quote the great teacher and spiritual advisor, Yogi Babaganoush, “Chill out man.” Think to yourself, “What could be good about this situation?” Then take a minute to really look for positive answers.

Much of our modern understanding and treatment of CAH comes from research conducted at Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore in the middle of the 20th century. Lawson Wilkins , "founder" of pediatric endocrinology , worked out the apparently paradoxical pathophysiology: that hyperplasia and overproduction of adrenal androgens resulted from impaired capacity for making cortisol. He reported use of adrenal cortical extracts to treat children with CAH in 1950. Genital reconstructive surgery was also pioneered at Hopkins. After application of karyotyping to CAH and other intersex disorders in the 1950s, John Money , JL Hampson, and JG Hampson persuaded both the scientific community and the public that sex assignment should not be based on any single biological criterion, and gender identity was largely learned and has no simple relationship with chromosomes or hormones. See Intersex for a fuller history, including recent controversies over reconstructive surgery.

Sufferers usually jump from one doctor to another because they are not improving. The reasons are simple. The body is not getting what it needs at the foundation level to effectively recoup, rebuild and heal itself. More is not necessarily better, and often can weaken the body. Stimulating the body without nurturing the adrenals leads to a gradual decompensation of the body that ultimately can be debilitating. Many sufferers have seen their careers destroyed, social life vanished, becoming homebound, and in severe cases, even bedridden. This doesn’t have to be you. It’s YOUR body! Do not take YOUR fatigue lightly. Short-term patches and ignorant nutritional and medical advice can ruin you. The body has amazing recovery ability if only given the right tools and chance, and that is where the recovery effort should be focused on.

Treatment: If a pancreatic or liver tumor is identified and able to be surgically excised, the skin lesions may normalize for an extended period of time, but because these tumors metastasize (spread to other areas of the body) quickly, surgery is not curative. In cases of end stage liver disease, surgery is not possible, and the goal of therapy is to increase quality of life and decrease uncomfortable skin lesions with supportive care and addressing the nutritional abnormalities. Supportive care includes supplementing protein and necessary minerals and enzymes through the diet and oral supplements or by weekly intravenous amino acid infusions that are performed in the hospital on an outpatient basis until improvement in the skin is noted. Unfortunately, despite the supportive care, the disease will progress.
